The path through the forest was narrow and the lush green depths that surrounded them were littered with pale glowing mushrups.
The forest crackled and squeaked with life. A flock of flarks fluttered among the branches, flying in a helix pattern. An embermander stopped mid-step up the trunk of a tree. In a puff of steam its molten skin cooled and a dark black crust formed over its body; camouflaged amongst the tree bark.
Jono tried to breathe slowly and listen for the whispers, but the forest was vibrantly alive with twinkling pixie flies and glowing mushrups that grew fat on the ground or thin on the trunks of trees. The forest was illuminated by the soft Terralunis moonlight.
